Such bad reviews are often the result of authors who do not know anything about Mandriva Linux and do not take their time to look for infos. Sometimes such authors also have their own opinion about how a Linux distribution should be. As nice as all theose comments are, the damage done (as Jackson Browne would say).

To avoid this Mandriva users should write their own reviews and offer them to sites who publish reviews, to online magazines and the print media. If such a review is straight, pointing at the strong AND the weak points and does not sound like a fan-boy's praise, many editors will accept such reviews. They bring a benefit for the reader, the media, for the author and for the distribution. It's a win:win for all.

After reading such a bad review about Mandriva 2008.1 another community member and I had this idea and offered it to the chief editor of the German print magazine LinuxUser. Since then he keeps asking for a new review whenever a new release is out. The current review shows 5 pages including screenshots and is not only published in the print edition but also in the online edition.
And we even get paid! :)

Now, how about it - start nagging your magazine's editors!

hehe, yeah, it's not really a relationship problem anymore, more a matter of paying the rent without any source of income, but it'll work out eventually. :)

Ah, so that was what that big screen was for. :o)

I really regret not checking out other peoples' booths in general, I bet there must've been some quite cute and interesting stuff in the various booths that I missed out on this year..

Well, I had a look and chat a bit at Ubuntu's booth : they were presenting an eee-pc and eee-box running Ubuntu (of course).

The eee-box was acting as a media-center with elisa, connected to a big flat-screen TV, playing big buck bunny and could be remotely controlled using a regular phone by using bluetooth. All that stuff was working really well and I've never seen such a system working in front of my eyes.

But nothing was really Ubuntu specific.

Comment on xz (formerly known as lzma utils) has gone beta! by proyvind

Well, I guess that doing a release just adding support for xz can be done in fairly short time, I have more features to add related to that, but those are less critical..
So I guess it's just a matter of motivation, maybe sometime this week maybe..

For the name, I will keep it, the library is still named liblzma and will stay with that name, so same goes for pyliblzma. :)
